So many patients come in initially to our office with dental anxiety. It could be from stories that they’ve heard from their friends and family, or maybe they’ve had a bad experience themselves. We have to work around those, and we make that a primary goal here, is to change that mindset, figure out what the patient is nervous about. There are different aspects of dentistry that bother people in different ways. So figuring out the root cause and setting up that appointment to serve the patient best. I’ll ask patients all the time, “Do you want me to tell you what I’m doing as I’m going, or would you rather me just let you know when it’s over?” If we can distract the patient, if that’s helpful. So really just having a conversation with the patient and trying to figure out, what is it that we can do to make you feel more comfortable?
